How to Move Mountains in Prayer: 7 Days of Scary Prayers

how-to-2Have you ever prayed scary prayers?  They are the kind of prayers that are so big and bold and outside the normal prayers we pray before bedtime. Only God has the power to answer scary prayers. Have you ever seen God answer any scary prayers? I have.

Nothing has increased my faith in God like prayer.  It’s what keeps me praying and worshiping even when some prayers don’t get answered and the healings don’t come.  I’ll talk about prayer, teach about it, write about it, try to get you to start doing it all. day. long. if you’ll let me!

Jesus says if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we can move mountains. (Matthew 17:20) That. sounds. crazy. Jesus! What Jesus is really inviting us to is a deeper faith.

In the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to pray saying Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Then, He teaches us to pray/ask for three things:

1.Provision-Daily Bread

2. Personal Relationships- Forgive us as we Forgive others

3. Against Sin and Evil- Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil

When we pray on Earth as it is Heaven, we are praying and trusting God to provide for our physical, relational, and spiritual needs.

We are praying for the perfect provision in Heaven to unleash into our lives on Earth. (This stuff gets me super jacked in Jesus name… btw.)

But sometimes there are mountains in the way!!!  Some mountains we create on our own. Others are simply there because life. is. hard!! We live in a world full of trouble, strife, and hardship. And we DO have an enemy who hates us and will do anything to get in the way of us seeing God.

What does Jesus tell us to do with mountains BY FAITH??? He says… Tell them to move! That’s a scary prayer.

In the physical world mountains are HUGE!  My dad lives in Montana. We would drive all around mountains on the way to our campsite… our destination.  It would take a while!

Jesus is always speaking directly to issues of our hearts and souls… the things that last.

In the spiritual world, in your Christian walk (heart)… what mountains are in the way of you seeing Heaven or experiencing and seeing God? What mountains are in the way of your spiritual growth?  Jesus tells us to move the mountains… not drive around them.

The Challenge

Will you join me for 7 days of scary prayers? For 7 days, let’s pray for mountains to move and Heaven to invade those places with His glory.

I love love love Matthew 16: 15-19- And on this rock I will  build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on Earth will be loosed in Heaven.

Let’s intentionally loose Heaven on Earth in Jesus name for  7 days. Tweet That

What do your mountains look like?  Are they financial? Relational? Physical? Do you need healing? We will pray through the Lord’s Prayer for 7 days.  Over these 7 days, I will send a prayer every day to your email that teaches you how to pray for a specific mountain to move.

I won’t be able to cover every mountain in 7 days, but it’s my hope that these 7 days serve as a jump start to a faith building prayer life!

Some of you reading this have had some really jacked up things happen to you and you don’t even know if you have a mustard size faith. If that is you, then borrow some of my faith and sign up anyway.  I have enough faith and hope to carry you. Yes. You. I pray for every eye that reads any word I write or say.

We can have perfect peace and provision this side of Earth.  We can have contentment in Jesus name.  It might not look like what you thought it would, but God’s promises remain true.

So what do you say? Will you join me? Starting Monday, January, 16th, will you join me for 7 days of scary prayers?  Will you join me as we seek God and tell mountains to move in Jesus name? I pray you say yes!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for showing us how to pray. Thank you for Jesus. Father, help us to keep your words in our minds and hearts as we seek you! Give us the strength to trust you once again..or maybe for the first time. Jesus let us feel your presence and encourage us as we seek to move the mountains in our lives and the lives of our loved ones in Jesus name. Father, we can do none of this without you. You are everything.

Are we asking God the wrong questions?

Wrecked Again

Last week Jesus wrecked me.  We’re talking crying in the kitchen..arms raised..tears flowing…kids looking at me like I’m crazy wrecked me.  I was overwhelmed by the goodness of God and his faithfulness.  I was humbled as Sweet Jesus revealed some ugly in my heart.

The ugly was unbelief…or partial belief.  Whatever it was, I pray it doesn’t stay there in Jesus name.

Like many good and moral people we adopted a girl through Food for the Hungry.  I say moral because even people who don’t love Jesus agree that poverty is a problem.  But, I’m an awful sponsor.  I’ve yet to send a letter or stickers or anything.  We pay our monthly sponsorship and pray for her.  That’s it.

If I’m really honest, I enjoy the opportunity that comes with the letters about the less fortunate to teach my privileged children to think of others.  Yes,  we try to practice what we preach and this is my effort to teach my children to think globally.

We would pray for her somewhat frequently at meals and at times before bed.  Our prayers would be very generic: Provide for her and her family. Make a way for them.  Help her to love and know you with her whole heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Bring her family out of poverty. God, there is no poverty in Heaven, I pray there is no poverty in her life.

These prayers were more of an act of obedience than an act of faith.  I know God moves.  I’ve seen it.  I just didn’t expect Him to do this.

I received a letter in the mail explaining that our girl was no longer in the program.  My immediate thought was… Oh no, she  died!

Then I continue to read that the was family has been economically rehabilitated.

I started geeking out because this is what I’ve been praying for.  Unbelief quickly crept in as my  next thoughts were… Oh no, this is probably worse!  Now they are only on their own.  She’ll be without the resources the program was supplying.  She’s  probably in a worse place!

Then Holy Spirit kicked in gently reminded me of the God I serve.  Father. Forgive. Me.  He is NOT a God that does half-ies!

He doesn’t save us half way, redeem us half-way, set us half-free.  The god of halfway isn’t the God of the Bible.

I serve  the God that makes a way through Jesus Christ.  I serve a God of completeness.  I follow the King Jesus that says “It is finished.”

FATHER FORGIVE ME!  Of course she’s not dead, of course you rescued her!  Of course you brought her out of poverty.  Of course you did because you are faithful and good.  I prayed in Jesus name that you would prepare a way for work for her family… so in Jesus name YOU DID.

Father God forgive my unbelief!  Praise and tears came later because my faith had NOTHING to do with God answering my prayer.  I had a mustard seed size faith while praying for a sweet girl in the Philippines out of poverty.

Going all Nancy Drew on the situation, I called the organization to learn that her community had not left the program… only her family.  God had made a way for her family to become economically rehabilitated, just like I had prayed with my mustard seed size faith.

Needless to say my mustard seed size faith is a little larger.  It makes me want to pray more!  I will be praying for families and countries to come out of poverty.  I’ll be praying that today God is putting things in motion to supply jobs and whatever else needs to be done to remove poverty from this country.  He answered my prayer with little faith.  It makes me wonder what happens when I pray with actual faith.

Praying for global issues is a huge act of faith.  There is usually no way to know if God is doing anything with them and you may never see any of the fruit.

It’s fair to think, What’s the point?  Why should I even waste my time on them?  Am I even suppose to pray for that?

My answer is ABSOLUTELY!  Looking at the life of Jesus, you see that He performed miracles over the natural, physical, and spiritual.  HE showed the glory of God and heaven through these demonstrations of power.

In the Lord’s prayer Jesus prays the words, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.” Matthew 6:10

Jesus says thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Well… Heaven is perfect and full of God’s glory.  That tells me that I’m to pray for God’s glory to come to Earth in natural, physical, and spiritual ways.

Watching how Jesus lived stretches my prayer life from my needs and wants to praying for the world’s needs.

His first miracle was turning water into wine.  There was a need/problem and Jesus solved the problem using power from Heaven.   Only God can turn water into wine.

He does this because it increases the faith of the people who believe in Him as well as draws people closer to Him as a picture of hope.  This is the same for 2016.

I’ve prayed that God would PLEASE help my kids go to sleep. My faith wasn’t increased when the babes went to sleep. That would happen eventually without God.

Most people want their faith to increase, but spend no time praying prayers that require any faith!

Praying for world issues can very much seem like words being thrown into the air.  Thankfully, we serve a merciful God who throws a bone every now and again to remind and encourage us who we are because of Christ Jesus.

You might be thinking, Then why doesn’t God just end poverty?  My answer is I don’t know.  We live in a fallen world and it need Jesus everywhere.

But I do know that Alyza was in poverty, I prayed God would bring her out of poverty, and she’s out of poverty.  End of story in my book.  Beginning of story in hers.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you that are a God who hears the prayers and cries of your people.  I pray you come down and make your glory known in the lives of your people.  Help us to be kingdom minded and see the areas that need you.  Help us to know you and your heart more deeply, so that we know how to pray for those you love.

Thank you Jesus. You are everything,

In your name,

Dear Fear, We’re breaking Up!

Dear fear,

We. Are. Breaking. Up.

It’s not working out anymore… And let’s be clear.. It’s you not me.  You call me names like failure, fake, and screw up.  You keep me in the shadows  instead of walking in the light.  You send my head spinning instead of focusing on what’s true.

You. Waste. My. Time.

You. Kill. My. Joy.

You keep me in the negative “what ifs”

What if my husband gets in a car wreck?

What if my kids get hurt?

What if a bad guy breaks into my home?

What if people really know all the bad stuff I’ve done.

What if I’m making the wrong decision and this turns out badly?

What if I’m hearing you wrong?

What if I’m a really bad mom and My kids end up jacked up?

What if this makes me look stupid?

What if I feel like this forever?

So out you go in JESUS NAME! We are done!  Now GO! Walk out the door! You’re not welcome here anymore!

I’m replacing you with the love I have in Christ. Not only am I going to survive…I’m going to thrive!

I’m replacing you with positive what- ifs

What if God started an amazing thing in my marriage and my husband became this awesome man of God?

….. I’m going to pray for that!

What if my children knew the love of Christ and did amazing things for him at a young age?

………I’m going to start praying for that!

What if I screw up and my kids turn out fine anyway!

…..I’m going to pray for that!

What if I don’t look stupid and this actually turns into an awesome thing!!

What if my house turns into Holy Ground and the presence of God is so evident people want to know more about Jesus?

What if instead of feeling ashamed and guilty of past mistakes… I trade it in with grace, mercy, and power. And I step into my proper role in kingdom of heaven…

And what if God IS actually who He says is and He actually can fulfill ALL my needs and desires with glory. What if I start dreaming and praying again? What if start walking in freedom.

What if……?

…………I’m going to pray for that!

Hello love of Jesus.  I’m ready to believe you now.  I’ve broken up with fear and I’d like to couple up with your perfect love.  Help me to see myself through your eyes. Help me to feel safe and live openhanded with my life, gifts, and talents.

Help me to be authentic with my life and know you more deeply!

Help me to protect my heart and mind so I’m not tempted to slide back into fearful thoughts. Please reveal to me what else needs to go so that doesn’t happen.

Thank you  Jesus that your word is true.

Thank you that you are a God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to your power that is at work with in us. Ephesians 3:20

Dear Heavenly Father I speak freedom from fear over every eye who read this.  I pray that you have a moment with Jesus and your lavish love covers them in a way that cast out all fear.  I pray that they receive this love and it replaces the spots in their hearts where your love should reside. I speak they come to know the spirit of love, power, and sound mind that comes with walking through life closely with you.  I pray this over every reading in the name of Jesus.

Walking with Lions

It’s kind of crazy what they want super sick people to do.  Twenty laps daily is what we walk around E8 in order to keep things moving.  We add some time on the stationary bike to spice things up.  This was yesterday and also the first time I intentionally walked with a lion.

I just finished Lioness Arising by Lisa Bevere and I say… it’s a must read!  It is full of truth bombs for women who desire a life in Christ.  I started it a few months ago, but life is nuts and who has time to read when there is sleep to be had.  Sitting with mom granted me time to finish the book.

I love when a book says what I feel inside.  There is something about feeling known in that moment.  Most of this book did this for me.  I haven’t been able to truly describe what it’s like to have Christ truly remove all fear over the last few months.  Any time I have been afraid or worried or stressed… He has simply brought me out of it quickly.  He hasn’t let me stay there.

Even when my sweet granny passed away.  I was broken, but I wasn’t undone.  His faithfulness continued to amaze me even when we lost my precious granny in March.

I wanted to call it the “peace that passes all understanding,” but that wasn’t it either.  Yesterday, I was able to put into words.

I have been walking with the Lion of Judah.

“Those who follow Jesus keep the company of a Lion. Jesus is our Lamb that was slain and rose again as Lion of Judah.” –Lisa Bevere

Amen. To. That.  And YES! YES! YES!  This describes what my life has been the last few months!  I have been walking next to the Lion of Judah!

This is why I haven’t completely crumbled under the stresses, sadness, and pressures of life.  There have been moments, but they haven’t stayed!  This is why the word “peace” didn’t quite fit what I was walking in.

If you are walking next to a lion you aren’t just peaceful… You. Are. bold!!  You fear not because you are walking next to the Christ who rose again and conquered death!  You are walking with the conquering Lion of Judah.

Lately, I’ve been asking for the faith OF God and not just faith in God… I heard  someone speak on that once and it seemed legit… I think He is answering my prayer by allowing me to experience what it’s like to walk through life  next to the Lion of Judah.  And it’s incredible.

Right after I finished the chapter on Walking with a Lion, mom was ready for her laps.  What she didn’t know was that I intentionally brought the Lion of Judah with me as we walked circles among the sick.  He had always been there, but there is something that adds bravery and boldness to your life when you picture Christ as the Lion and intentionally ask Him to come along.

I prayed so much Heaven down on her and the sick we passed along the way.  We walked circle after circle and I prayed and prayed that Christ would move in their lives and heal them.  I prayed that every person on this floor comes to know the saving power, mercy, and grace that only comes through Jesus Christ.  I prayed that they would come to truly know God and His goodness.  I prayed that He would move in Jesus name.  There are no infections in Heaven, I prayed there are no infections in the people’s live on E8 in Jesus name! Who knows what else I prayed.  I tend to get on a roll, but the point is that  floor E8 didn’t know what was coming in Jesus name.

It’s crazy what starts happening when you begin to pray crazy prayers and they start getting answered.  So many women live in fear.  May I lovingly remind you that in Christ you walk through life with the Lion of Judah.  He can do nothing but conquer.  Let this truth give you the boldness to pray for things only Jesus can do.  Only Jesus can beat AML.  Only Jesus can save your marriage, heal your heart, bring you out of the darkness, overcome that addiction.

There are some things that only the Lion of Judah can conquer.  Let Him fight your fight for you!  He never leaves us.  So many times I picture Jesus and worship Him as the Lamb of God, but completely forget He is also the Lion.  He is very very very much both.

My mom also knows this Lion. She’s known Him longer and  she’ll give all the credit to Him as well.  Life and Faith are different when you walk with Lions.  Also….totally get this book!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your faithfulness.  Thank you for your goodness that has no end.  I pray that every eye that reads this comes to know you as Lion of Judah. Help us to let you fight for us and give us the strength to let go.  I pray they come to know you as their Savior who never leaves or forsakes them.  Help us to trust you with our lives in Jesus’ name.  Father we need you so much.  Thank you for your faithfulness.

In Jesus name,

Morning Y’all

Morning y’all!  Yes….those were the first words that came into my mind one morning after I hit snooze for the 5ooth time.  I giggled when I realized what I had done.  I referred to the Holy Trinity as Y’all.

Anyone who has ever been around me in the a.m. knows I spend the first ten minutes sleep walking. I’m a complete zombie in the morning. I finally learned that if I start each day with a quick prayer, getting out the door tends to include less tears.  There is truth to starting your day off getting your mind set on things above.  Acknowledging that God is with me all day… all day long… is harder to forget when I think about Him first.

Years ago, someone gave me a prayer that I prayed over a person in my life.  I taped it on my mirror in the bathroom.  I said it while brushing my teeth.  Eventually, I had it memorized and I could say it in the car as well.  Then I would be able to say it before bed.  It got the point where I was saying it in my sleep!

I got so used to praying this prayer that I realized I could literally pray most of the day.  The words of this prayer are scripture.  Those truths were being written on my heart and were coming out even when I wasn’t really thinking about it.  They became my thoughts when it was idle due to repetition.

I then started praying for other people.  I started praying for healing, marriages, the guy in the line in front of me, my pastors, children, and neighbors.  I learned how to pray without ceasing.  It started with a prayer I’d say while brushing my teeth.

God has increased in my life mostly because I learned how to pray.  If you want God to be big in your life… learn how to pray.  I have three kids, a husband, laundry, dishes, and I’m currently potty training.  I don’t have an hour to sit quietly and pray.  That doesn’t mean I can’t still pray all day.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 says to pray without ceasing.  Paul encourages us to do this because he knows how important prayer is for the believer.  It starts as an act of obedience, but with practice; it becomes the habit that changes lives.  Prayer is simply getting your thoughts fixed on Jesus and it’s easier than you think with a little practice.

I no longer always say this prayer in morning, but it birthed the prayer life I have now.  I feel safe to say that God smiled when I woke up, stretched,  and yawned,  “Morning Y’all!”  I believe He was glad I woke up thinking about my Heavenly Father.  In my head he chuckled at the sight because I really am a hot mess in the morning.

He wants His children to know how much He loves us.  He wants to show us.  He wants to get rid of fear, shame, and guilt.  He wants to get rid of those thoughts and replace them with safety, trust, and perfect love.

Here is the “Wake Up Prayer”given to me years ago.  I had on my mirror. My prayer is these words of power have the same effect on you as it did for me!

Wake Up Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being an approachable father full of love.  Help us to learn how close you are to us.  I pray every eye who reads this learns the value of a solid prayer life.  I pray you increase in our lives as we learn to seek you all day long.  Thank you for your faithfulness.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Holy Week

“Don’t have faith. Have active faith!” It’s what I said to a lady this morning. I was encouraging her to be open handed with her business and not just have Faith in God, but pray forth what God’s dreams  for her life are. The idea will not leave me because it’s Holy Week. It’s one of my favorite  times of the year.  I set this week aside to try to reflect on the significance of this week and the impact it has on the rest of my year.

_ My house will be called a House of prayer._

I also spend more time in prayer than I usually do. If I have ever known you or had a conversation with you, chances are you are getting prayed for! That’s how the conversation started with the lady this morning:)

If I like your status or Instagram, pic; you are definitely getting prayed for.  I’m sharing this to encourage you to join me! It’s amazing and life changing when you partner up with Jesus to pray for something to come forth in His name.

I Googled Jesus Holy Week… I know… Super spiritual and learned that on day two, Jesus entered the temple and cleansed it out of all things that weren’t suppose to be there.

After Jesus cleared it out, Matthew 21:13 writes,” My house will be called a House of prayer.”

If you have spent any time in church, you’ve heard that your body is a temple.  Let’s take this week to turn our bodies into a house of prayer!!!  Let’s pray boldly for God to move in our lives and in the lives of others.  Pray that God gives you the boldness to invite someone to church for Easter.  Pray for that friend or family member that they come to know Christ this year.

Later on this day in Holy Week, Jesus’ disciples were amazed of what they witnesses Jesus do a fig tree.

Jesus’ response is totally my point!! I love it.

“I tell you the truth if you have faith and do not doubt not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, “Go throw yourself into the sea and it will be done.” If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer!

What!?! Tell a mountain to go throw itself into the sea??? Jesus….that sound crazy.  And have no doubt…I’ve tried that and it didn’t work.

It’s so important to know that Jesus knows us more than we know ourselves.  He knows we have doubts.  He knows we don’t dare pray for mountains to move because we can’t even walk across this little creek! I prayed for patience yesterday, had no doubt, and still yelled at the kiddos!!

This passage is a beautiful invitation from Jesus to pray for BIG things.

So cleanse your temple and turn it into a house of prayer this week.  It’s almost like Jesus is daring his disciples.  I can’t share enough about what I’ve seen the Lord do during these weeks of prayer.  He has always been so faithful.  Spend some time reading about what Jesus did this week. I literally Google Holy week because I’m not a Bible scholar…thanks Siri!  If you have never been one to read the Bible, I encourage you to start today!  It’s good stuff. I’m reading the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John this week.

I challenge you to not just have faith in Jesus this week but instead have Active Faith! Join Jesus and do what He says and pray that mountains move.

I am.

I thank you for Jesus. I thank you for His example. I thank you that because of Easter we can actually join you.  I pray that every eye who reads these words draw closer to this week and that you reveal what needs to be cleaned out of our lives.  Help us to pray boldly and move mountains in Jesus’ name.  It’s all about you God. Please keep us amazed at your goodness. In Jesus’s name I pray.
