Be Brave. Pray for Life.

be-brave
Are you brave enough to pray for life? Sometimes I’m not. It’s hard to pray those big prayers when things are scary and seem hopeless. I have definitely been in a place where I’ve had all the faith and hope that God would heal and then He didn’t. It does take bravery to ask for life because let’s face it…we all know someone who has prayed for life and it didn’t come. It’s easy and natural to ask the questions, “Where was God ? It made no sense then, why would He give life now?” I have asked these things.

I think we have to be careful with putting God in boxes when it comes to praying for big things. I’ve learned that’s how I pray. It’s like I have more boldness to pray for healing when the odds are more in my favor. I think it’s a pride thing…like my faith in my prayers will somehow determine the outcome. This is an ugly place be in because then it’s about me and not the Holy, Loving, Sovereign God.

The Lord also continues to refresh and heal my heart so that I do have the boldness to pray for life the next time the odds aren’t in my favor. Because there will be a next time. He heals our hearts because He is good and loving and knows more than we do.

I’ve been praying for a lot of life lately. My mom has a really scary cancer and we just received bad news about my precious grandmother… My mom’s mom. Mom is about to be in isolation for 4 months. Granny has something very life threatening for an 84 yr old. You do the math.

I need for all of this to NOT happen at the same time.

I then remembered something I tend to forget… a lot. In the Bible, Jesus tells us to ask for our daily bread. I’m terrible at this. I’m more of a meal plan girl, myself. Jesus telling me that Daily Bread is enough is hard for me to swallow.

I don’t think it’s an accident that Jesus is also referred to as the bread of life. He tells us to ask for daily bread because He is all we need daily. So yes, I’m speaking life over my granny and mother every day. I’m praying that Jesus touches, heals, and sustains life today.

After being overwhelmed and crying for two days I decided to pray for life instead. I started speaking life and rejuvenation into Granny. I prayed God would heal what need to be healed and Jesus would sustain my granny’s life.  I asked my friends and small group to join me.

I’m not going to lie. It can be embarrassing to tell people I am praying for healing for an 84 year old who knows the Lord. But that isn’t my call. As Christians, we are to pray for life and leave the results to God.

Daily Bread seems like such a small thing to ask for when praying for situations with large emotions attached to it. But I pray that you have the boldness to pray for life anyway. Speak life over the sick child. Speak life over the failing marriage. Speak life over the awful job environment.Who knows what will happen tomorrow, but today we can pray for enough daily bread to get us through whatever is going on, today.

Doctors don’t know why granny is doing so well. Her body is responding differently than they expected. They are no longer talking about hospice options, but discharge dates. I had a wonderful visit with her yesterday. She is such a treasure to me. My mom is also doing well today. She is the most amazing woman I know.  We are preparing for her transplant at the end of the month. It’s looking like this daily bread is actually enough for today!!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this day and for Jesus. Father I pray that every eye who reads this will have an increased desire to pray to you. I pray that you increase our boldness to pray for the people we know and love. Help us to speak life.  Help us to see you working in the times of uncertainty and give us the faith to trust you are good. Lord, please give us this day our daily bread and thank you for Jesus who gives us life. Please bring people to our minds that we need to be praying for and help us to be faithful to do so. I ask all these things in your name.

Amen.

  2. Lauren I needed this so bad. I just had a miscarriage on Christmas Eve after years of trying and months of fertility treatments. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Speaking life.
